Time and time again, history has shown that despots will almost always start international conflict. The cult of heroism and death fascism cultivates and orients the society in question around will eventually drive its "elected" vessels to indulge in actual imperialism. Europe didn't wanna accept this and the World War II happened. It refused to believe it when Putin candidly talked about it in 2007, and they're now invading Ukraine. This foolish disengagement with the fascists when they're telling you what they're gonna do can be interpreted as stupid naivete, but I think a far better explanation is that the West is willing allow third-rate dictatorships to do psychotic shit, just so they can continue to access the natural resources in those nations that they desperately need to function. Even when they try to address this problem, the solution they come up with is Southern Gas Corridor...
