HELP: Chattting text or voice

Hey All

So I've recently taken the plunge and started playing on a public PVP server but I've encountered a small problem with the text chat window. So right now it's rather painful to send text replies with the build in keyboard since it's so slow and cumbersome.

Can anyone suggest a good way to chat in game that doesn't involve dragging my cursor across an inferior onscreen keyboard or using silly predictive text prompts?

I'd like to use the localised voice chat function but it seems to be broken (surprise, surprise).
