Close view: is it good or am I crazy?

My eyes are always locked on the minimap already, and while I do acknowledge you see a bit more in a few scenarios, I feel my precision isn't as great. Especially on heroes like Raz, I feel close view I perform at a higher level.
For reference, I am just a plat player (52% ranked w/r only 350 games), mostly solo queue.
I've watched some YouTube videos of very high end players and even some of them (simjo, a few ahq players) also use close view...
