Kog’s anti-unbalanced team comp mechanic
Post Body

This feature just came out in the kog test server. Please add it in aov in the future.

In ranked draft matches (non 5 man queue), if one side drafts out an “unbalanced team comp”, the 5 team members will vote to continue or restart. If anyone votes restart or does not vote at all, the match instantly ends. The 5 people will be sent on a ranked cooldown that increases with the times they’ve restarted that day with up to 4.5 hours when more than 5 restarts occurs on the same day. After the cooldown the system will try to not queue them together. The opposing team will not face any penalties or cooldowns.

Unbalanced criteria is based on each hero’s primary role. Their secondary role is not considered. The voting will initiate if any of the following scenarios occur:

3 mages and 2 marksmen/2 mages and 3 marksmen

4 mages, marksmen, supports, assassins, or tanks. (In this case, the last player who didn’t play the role will not be punished)

5 mages, marksmen, supports, assassins, tanks, or warriors

Comments

I’d rather have somebody that knows how to play their character than pick a role they can’t play just to fill the comp (I actually changed my IGN to CantPlayTank to get my point across). A better system for SoloQ would be to let people pick a primary and secondary class, matchmake teams based on comp and then lock those roles in.

This system does have a few problems, like long wait times for ADC and Jungle because most of those roles are insta locked as soon as you hit the selection screen. So maybe an opt-in/opt-out system like how a random 5 won’t be match against a squad 5. This would also allow players to get more familiar with a role they are trying to learn instead of risking getting flamed or reported because they are trying to learn a role in unranked. Bot matches are great and all, but they don’t give you a good verity of scenarios.

Another thing is that people put way too much emphasis on win rates. Win rates are good for you as a player to see what you’re statistically good at, but being a team game you can still lose even though you are carrying your team. I’d prefer either an all time K/D/A average for each character or average score with each player. I’d rather know that Yorn has an average 3/7/6 k/d/a than a 52.3% WR out of 156 games. Or that Bitterfly puts up 11/3/7 instead of 46% in 103 games. This also lets people know what kind of player that person is (ex. As a support should I build for roam or will I have to babysit Valhein because he thinks he can take the whole team by himself.

TLDR: Allow people to be matched based on preferred role and change win rates to an average k/d/a system.
