n00b problem: Running into a problem following the setup guide
Post Body

So, I just got an Arduino Uno R3 and I am following the reference guide that is linked under the "Help>Getting Started" option in the arduino 1.0.3 software, but I ran into a snag and can't seem to figure out how to reconcile it.

4 | Install the drivers

Installing drivers for the Arduino Uno with Windows7, Vista, or XP:

  • Plug in your board and wait for Windows to begin it's driver installation process. Â After a few moments, the process will fail, despite its best efforts

  • Click on the Start Menu, and open up the Control Panel.

  • While in the Control Panel, navigate to System and Security. Next, click on System. Once the System window is up, open the Device Manager.

  • Look under Ports (COM & LPT). Â You should see an open port named "Arduino UNO (COMxx)"

This is, in part, step four of the setup guide. I simply don't see the port named "Arduino UNO (COMxx)" under "Ports" in the device manager.

I'm connected via USB, I've tested the USB port to make sure it's working properly (plugged in a USB flash drive).

Any suggestions?

UPDATE: Just out of curiosity I wanted to see if I could get it to work on my Macbook Pro and it worked, so at least I know it's not a problem with the arduino. I still prefer to work with this on my desktop (windows 7) though. Any help is greatly appreciated.
