I am a dude in a wheelchair, with the function of only my right arm, and I need some help building a better gun mount for myself so it is easier for me to go hunting. The current one I have is the only one on the market for disabled people from be adaptive (You’ll have to look it up lol) and it’s been good enough to have put food on the table once or twice but at the end of the day it’s meh. It’s extremely finicky, slow, and not really stable especially when you’re trying to shoot at extended distances and I know that I can build something better, safer, and one that would allow me to be more independent and shoot more naturally. My idea is to use two stepper motors (one for x axis and one for y axis) moving this rifle mount, a servo for the safety (that is a definite must for me), a servo for the trigger, and if possible a servo for the magazine release and on top of the scope for zooming in and out, but depending upon the scope a small motor and a gear around the zoom ring might be better. I want to be able to control it all with a Quadstick, it’s an adaptive controller utilizing a joystick that can be moved with my mouth and several sip and puff sensors, it can emulate Playstation/Xbox controls and anything on the keyboard. I have seen somebody use an Arduino paired with a Quadstick as an adaptive RC controller, here’s the video so I know that what I have envisioned in my head is possible, I just need some help and pointers. I’m going to design a piece that the butt stock sits in that ties into the block where the motors will be to make it extra stable, and perhaps even a strap that goes over the forend where the grip is holding it. I want to mainly build it to use AR or AK platformed rifles as I use an AR chambered in 6.5 Grendel (perfect for deer and hogs) so that’s why I would like a servo for mag release, I also thought about having a piston driven device or a servo if it’s capable to push the charging handle back to load and unload as somebody would manually for rifles with a side charging handle. Another thing I would like to add is a gyro chip so that it can stay stable on the move, I think that would be a cool set up. I don’t want somebody to think that this could be a liability lol I would literally need someone to put it on my chair and set it up for me, and then load mags because my one good hand has no fine motor skills, a goal of mine is to go hog hunting with some friends (I reside in Texas and hogs are a really big issue here) and this set up would allow me to shoot almost as naturally as my friends, but on the other hand I think we all should be honest with ourselves and look at the world and of the direction is heading, worst case scenario I would want the ability to defend my family, my friends, my community, and myself if it ever came to it but I pray nothing of the sort happens because I don’t ever want to hurt anyone but people are prepping for a reason. I appreciate this community and I appreciate the help that y’all provide, thank you for helping me get this design out of my head and into real life.
Edit: would it be possible to have a screen with some buttons with the ability to dial in the sensitivity/speed of the stepper motors and to turn on and off the Gyro?
