Wait so, I have to clear the Tempestissimo anomaly to unlock world 5-7 to continue the story, and said anomaly bumps the game up an entire difficulty? I clear 99% of everything on PRS but Tempest itself was too difficult when I first unlocked it, so I did it on PST... except then when nothing happened it turns out I have to essentially do it on a tougher PRS anyway to contniue.

If I'm putting the game on a lower difficulty it's because I need it there. Why the heck do they force you to clear it on a higher difficulty just to do the story? These are already very difficult songs for that difficulty level, bumping it up to be very difficult songs for the next difficulty is just absurd
