Hello everyone, as someone who is into retro everything, I'm very interested in old arcades that were around before the whole rise of "bar arcades" and modern pinball locations. I'm talking about the old school locations that were dark, grimy, and focused on gaming, not drinking or as a side thing to a comic book shop or other establishment. Defunct or still going.
If you all can share the name and location on the arcade, along with some memories, that would be great. I would like to catalogue them so that they wont be forgotten. Don't have to make it long.
I'll start with the ones I went to, all sadly now defunct:
The Underground Arcade in Huntington Park, California, on the corner of Saturn and Pacific Blvd. This place was an underground seedy location and full of delinquents who would skip school. It had a very big KoF scene. You would find empty beer cans in the restroom, and the pool tables would always be full of cholos. Went defunct around 2017.
The Sassony Arcade on 724 S Broadway in Downtown LA. This one was funny because you might expect it all to be kids, but all the older Hispanic workers from nearby warehouses would come here to play and drink. I will never forget the sight of a big mustached Mexican dude with a baseball cap, drinking a Bud Ice while playing Rampage. Went defunct around 2017 as well
And there were two more spots I went to. But I want to hear you guys' arcades and stories.
