Large swamp maple on my property, the tree guy suggested to prune back about 20 feet, the center where the trunks meet has been rotting for a few years, I am hoping this tree lasts as least as long as I plan on living here, around 10 years. I'm afraid if nothing is done it's going to split soon. Or should it be secured with cables or something? It also shades my garden and fruit trees more and more the last few years so I wouldn't mind it getting a shave unless it will cause real harm. It seems to have really appreciated the lawn fertilizer, we moved in about 7 years ago.
