Trying to figure out some hardscaping in back yard to make it more usable, without causing stress to roots. Looking at installing a low deck on floating adjustable base with a couple inches of space in between the ground and the deck to allow roots to grow undisturbed. Decking would be mix of concrete pavers, wood pavers and turf. Last thing I want to do is kill this likely 250 year old tree. Practically speaking it would cost $20k to have it removed from our city backyard. Thoughts from the peanut gallery on this?
