Why aren't sub-14.5in barrels (like 10.5) more widely used in the military outside like Navy Seals and stuff? (I don’t know if this would be the right sub for this)
Post Body

(I'm not in the military) A lot of the pictures I've seen of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan show them with standard M4A1 barrel lengths yet there's a ton of data I've also seen that shows maximum engagement distances on average are less than 250 meters and thats going back like to WW1 to today. (although I have seen the inverse for Afghanistan in the mountains) Why wouldn't like Airborne units and Rangers optimize the compact and more maneuverable 10.5in barrels especially when they jump out of planes and helicopters and are in and out of buildings, caves, and other confined spaces.
