Post Body

I’ve been wanting to build an M16A2 inspired rifle, like the one I had in Basic Training. I had the lower already and I picked up the upper off of GAFS. It was only test fired by the gunsmith who assembled it. I decided to go with the A1 length stock which I prefer to the A2.

Parts list:

1) PSA M4 Carbine marked lower (may get an M16A2 marked one at some point)

2) CMMG lower parts kit

3) Geissele SSA-E trigger

4) CMMG A1 stock kit

5) H&R M16A2 upper

6) BCM BCG

7) PRI Gas buster

8) FN CHF chrome lined barrel

9) Rearden R2S flash hider

Got it zeroed yesterday at 36 yards. With the stock spring and Sierra 5, it was pretty gassy and punchy. Tried my YHM Resonator and it was mildly better but still a little gassy even with the PRI gas buster.

Swapped out the stock spring for a Geissele super 42 rifle spring and my SiCo gas defeating charging handle (still the best CH and mitigating gas I’ve used). This combo made a big difference, it really cut down on the gas and the cycling noise inside the buffer tube. With the resonator it was ejecting anywhere from 3-4 o clock depending on the ammo.

It was refreshing to go back to plain old iron sights which I haven’t shot with in years. Looking forward to running some more rounds through it. Only thing I’m changing out for sure is the handguards, these are the oval style which I hate, need to get a round set.
