Roommate moved out and left her fish. How should I care for it?

I’m not sure what kind of fish it is and I can’t get a picture because it’s hiding. It’s a grey fish that’s about the size of the end of a tube of speed stick. I know it’s not a beta fish though. I just don’t know how to clean the tank. She left behind the fish flakes too but I don’t know how often to feed it. I’ve never cared for a fish before, but I’m sure this tank is way too small. I’m not in a good place financially to buy a new tank yet. Any advice helps
