So I have a rental with a 3 year old belt driven, top loading, impeller washing machine. Recently it started making a horrible grinding noise in the clutch assembly when it's supposed to shift to spin. My landlord will not fix it and has not found a repairman for a month. He agreed I could try to fix it. I fully disassembled it and found no evidence of mechanical failure. I replaced the actuator. It seems as if the actuator is not making a full shift within tolerances. There is not broken plastic or unusual oil leakage. There has been crazy temperature shifts where I live; like 10 degrees one week 60 next week. I tried calibrating the machine with no success.
I live near Philly and I can't imagine why nobody will fix this; the local repair person said that the cost of him fixing it would likely exceed the cost of the machine. I have a rental and don't want to pay for it or go through the court process. Any ideas?
