Why is my iPhone storage full? (Primarily text messages.) Shouldn’t text messages be automatically uploaded to the cloud? (I have 2tb of cloud storage)

I have toggled all of the correct toggles to insure that everything on my phone is backed up to the cloud automatically. Last night I did a manual backup and still no luck.

In 2021 I lost my mother and my husband. There are a lot of days I go through their text threads for comfort, but since losing them I’ve also kept texts of close friends and family.

I really just need a way to backup all of my text messages and free up some storage space.

I currently have the 64gb iPhone 12. The phone itself still works great and has no other issue
