Old Macbook Pro (Late 2011) Backup with Time Machine and try out Linux

Post Body
So I have my old macbook pro from late 2011, that honestly still runs well (upgraded RAM and SSD a while back), and recently I've been curious about trying Linux. So my question is this:
Yesterday I backed up my macbook using Time Machine onto an external harddrive. If I put linux on this machine, and say I ever want to switch back, is it at all possible to use the backup I did to revert the computer back to the same OS (High Sierra) and all the files on that backup?
