Is face match security safe?

So I guess this is the state of evolution now for apple, from pin codes to fingerprint then to this to unlock your phone. But im just scared what if somebody just takes a photo of me and puts it in front of my phone, wouldnt that trigger an unlock? Actually thought that fingerprint would be safer..? Anybody who knows security care to chime in? Tia.
