External drives mounting as read-only

It's a Mac Studio, m1 chip, running Ventura 13.4.1
My external drives need NTFS to be accessed, so I've downloaded the current Paragon NTFS and installed it, given it full access as best I can (Paragon's instruction video is out of date). The external drives are loading as read-only and no amount of unlocking seems to help. When I try to change the sharing and permissions, I am told I do not have the necessary permissions even though I put in the admin password.
Any help appreciated.
