Removal of books and other upcoming adjustments
Post Body

Hello everyone!

We are getting ready to make appdb an official marketplace with support of Apple's API replacements, extended statistics and almost-perfect feature support for app installations.

Following this idea, some changes to appdb are coming:

Removal of books distribution.

All books from appdb will be removed, as this area gets less than 0.1% of downloads and is not updating properly, so we think that community is not interested in it.

Removal of macOS App distribution in form of DMG files.

Modern Apple computers with Apple chips allow programmers to pack apps into IPA files (just like for iPhone), it is much easier to distribute apps like this, so macOS apps will be just part of all apps on appdb.

Introduction of appdb own hosting.

If you are not a developer of app and just have an IPA file and want to share it, you will be able to do it securely directly from your personal IPA library by adding relevant metadata. Shared apps won't be counted as your IPA library storage, will be 100% installable, there will be no more dead links.

Introduction of index (directory) of 3rd party apps.

Appdb has repositories area, where people and developers are sharing their apps via simple JSON manifests, however, it is all separated to multiple repositories. We will be adding global search across all repositories, so apps can be found more quickly.

Introduction of improved official app publishing.

If you are developer and want to release your app on appdb (with supporting of different licensing types, e.g. per device or per user, in-app purchases, subscriptions and all other available API replacements from us instead of Apple), you can do it soon. If you are developer, lawyer or payment processing company in European Union, feel free to contact us via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) - to get access to private beta of all upcoming features.

Introduction of derivatives control

If you are an official developer who publish apps on appdb, or just a verified developer, you will be able to submit reports regarding publicly available derivatives of your app. Upon investigation, such content may be removed from appdb, or you can reach an agreement with derivative author to make even better software!

These features will be rolled out in batches. We will try to keep API v.1.6 fully compatible, however some changes may occur. Stay tuned to our social accounts to be in touch.
