Post Body

Hey all,

Sincere apologies for the amount of time this one's taken to get out, things have been a little all over the place lately, but regardless, this one packs a lot of great bug fixes and tweaks that I think you'll all really appreciate, and keeps us on our road to a bug free world and release.

Speaking of time, as mentioned in a few different posts recently I'm hoping to move to more rapid testing where more frequent (but potentially smaller) updates are released on an approximate weakly basis. This should provide a better testing experience for everyone, including myself. Bugs, as always, are still the focus here going forward. We're gonna whip this baby into tip top shape, and I'll be working my ass off to see that it is.

Without any further ado, here's what the new update packs (in not really any particular order):

  • Media viewer rewrite, featuring faster load times, reduction in memory usage, and better image detection, and just better stability
  • 3D Touch fixed and should be working as expected now (2.5D still needs a few more tweaks)
  • If you're directly in a subreddit (rather than /r/all or Front Page), instead of somewhat inanely displaying the subreddit name in each post the user is now displayed
  • Announcements in subreddits are now more clearly displayed with an indicator
  • Similarly, stickied comments in posts by moderators are now more clearly displayed as well
  • If you're a moderator you can now easily sticky or distinguish posts directly in the comment composer before posting
  • Much improved stability in comment composer
  • Similarly, much improved stability in post composer
  • Gestures on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have "taptic feedback" (oooo)
  • Fix where Twitter preview heights were incorrectly calculated
  • Fixed cell selection graphically looking weird
  • Compact cells now have their sliding gestures reinstated
  • Fixed bug where subreddit names in posts would be oddly truncated
  • Media viewer now has a much more subtle loading indicator that doesn't get in the way like the prior one did
  • When in a subreddit you can now see if the post was from a moderator or admin
  • You can now view the content of a post from anywhere in the comments via the ••• menu (no longer have to scroll all the way back up and lose your spot)
  • Low Data Mode improvements
  • First few comment backgrounds no longer have a weird color discrepancy
  • Improved content-type detection in comments (still a bit more I want to do here, however)
  • Posts are now more aggressive in downloading images ahead of time (before you scroll to them, so they'll be ready and downloaded when they arrive)
  • Improvements to comment flair
  • Speed of subreddit and user autocompletion in comment and post composer dramatically increased
  • Fixed bug where albums would show up with a black screen and not load
  • Images directly linked from Reddit are much better supported now
  • Autocompleted subreddits and user suggestions now don't require the initial / (i.e.: r/ works, not just /r/)
  • It's now much easier to complete the second gesture in a sliding gesture on smaller-screen devices
  • Issues where comment scores and gilded icon wouldn't show up in comments is now fixed
  • Various iOS 10 fixes
  • Other smaller bugs

As a small note, push notifications are getting an overhaul hopefully going into this next coming build, so that's why they're still a bit wonky.

As always, thanks everyone for providing great feedback and helping to shape Apollo. I'm not able to catch everything obviously, and the feedback you provide is crucial in making this the best Reddit client out there. Thank you so much, and I'll have something new for you again very soon hopefully. Hope you enjoyed the Apple event today. ;)

Disclaimer: Like I always mention, it can sometimes take a little while for the update to propogate from iTunes Connect to your devices, don't be alarmed if it's not available as soon as this post goes live, but I've done everything on my end. Yada yada yada…
