Is using a microphone with randoms extremely rare? Why don’t people comm?

Every time in ranked I use a mic people often say “you’re the first person to use the mic and talk to me today” like bro what? Why are people scared to talk? It makes things so much more complicated without mics and talking.
EDIT: I need to clarify that I’m only talking about using a mic in ranked ***
