SBMM always forces me into diamond/masters lobbies

I'm a gold 1 player. I've never been plat even once. About a month or two back I played a few games with a friend who's a diamond player.
Now every time I play pubs, I've got players with 11,000 kills, 4k badges, 20 kill badges, etc.. what the heck is going on?
Has this ever happened to you? How do I get back to lobbies that are suited for crappy players like me?
