The real problem with Aim Assist - from a former console gamer

Post Body

I hope that this isn't removed, because I think I can speak for most M&KB players here and hopefully reach some people who don't understand the "big deal"

I have been gaming for around 22 years, with Halo 2 being my first experience with online PvP. I played console shooters up until 5 years ago, when I switched to PC. I was excited to make the switch, but quickly learned that I was BAD, like really bad. I couldn't track, flick, or hit the broad side of a barn with my shots. I spent hundreds of hours if not more in aim train games, firing ranges, FFA deathmatches etc. to improve my mouse aim to a level I was happy with.

Things were in a good spot, and I felt accomplished beating other players on generally equally footing. Then cross-play started becoming popular, and this is where one of the main issues with Aim assist stems from. Cross-play has become the norm (for better or for worse), and PC players rarely have the option to opt out. While losing to a M&KB player generally felt fair, it was easier to accept that they were just better than me, losing to someone on console was more difficult to process. In close range fights, controllers just have a much easier time tracking targets due to AA, and it just feels... unfair? I feel like I had to spend hundreds of hours getting to my level of precision, and have to focus to hit as many shots as possible in those fast-pace CQC engagements, while my opponent on controller has a much easier time hitting those shots. I think "what was the point practicing so much if I can just now plug in a controller and have half of that aim done for me?"

I think the crux of the issue is that when aim assist is strong enough, it narrows the skill gap enough that pretty much anyone you go against has incredible aim/tracking. It removes the reward for practicing and improving your aim. This isn't an Apex - specific problem, since most online shooters have cross-play now. If games insist on forcing cross-play for PC users, then they need to do something to make this feel better. I realize that AA is pretty much necessary for console shooters, but it needs to be tuned down to a manageable level if they want to allow it in M&KB lobbies. There should be no reason PC players feel the need to switch to controller in order to access what is essentially an handicap. I hope that Respawn understand this, and progresses in a fair direction.

Also, for the inevitable replies stating that AA isn't really a thing, or isn't that strong: Then you should have no problem with them nerfing it, so I don't get the point.
