What should the Z offset be after initial calibration before printing?
Post Body

Hey all, I have a Kobra 2 Max, brand new, and was having a problem with the nozzle basically clearing away all of the plate material when printing one of the test files…

So I think I’ve got the printer pretty close to not digging into the bed when running a test print from the included thumb drive, the first time just knocked off all the material on the plate - down to the metal and didn’t really print - the Z it had created from the initial point where it touches the Z module was -3.5.

I did another print and as it started, adjusted the Z to -1.9 to allow it to print. So I knew something was wrong when it calibrated before a print ..

And there seems to be nothing in the user manual anywhere how to manually adjust the Z offset before printing and using the paper trick. The interface will let me mess with the x and y, and save it, but not the Z offset.

So I checked the height of the module, and it was a hair low - pre installed that way - about the thickness of a sheet of paper. So I adjusted it, and ran the Shark file / this time it did drag across the plate again (a brand new one), along the side, and I went into adjusting the Z offset, because it won’t let me if I pause then print - seems to only let me WHILE it’s printing- but when it got to its print area, as I was madly trying to keep the plate from being damaged - this time the Z offset started at -3.3 vs the -3.5 from previous.

I did get a good print - with good adhesion, but guessing that’s when it started closer to the -3.3 when I maybe came to -2.5 or so.

That being said, what should be the expected Z offset after it does its calibration with the module?

And truly, how can I create a good Z offset and save it in the printer?
