Hey guys, just wanted to ask a question, I have a Camponotus Consobrinus colony 13 workers strong and I was wondering on how to feed them protein. I cant bring myself to go out and buy feeder insects to kill. Is there any way to get them protein other than insects? Pls help
Visit a local pet store and ask for mealworms. You can feed them to the ants. I feed them live and it's no problem most of the time. If you feel so bad about it, wear surgical gloves. Buy cheap scissors which you aren't going to use and use them to cut the worms and feed them. Keep them in like a small tuba and feed them food leftovers and scraps. Give the ants very soft chicken or fish boiled and then cooled. But wouldn't advise you to keep doing this much. Only in rare situations.
See if your local pet store sells other live feeder insects like roaches and/or crickets. Boil them if you feel up to it or maybe microwave them for a few seconds after cooling them. You can also freeze them to death. Boiling is just to get rid of bacteria and toxins as a precaution. Then feed them. That way you won't have to cut them too but depends on the size of the colony.
