So a little story from several years back on this day with the background that today is my birthday. TLDR at bottom.
I worked at 24/7 corporation that did business all over world. Well their corporate hq was small 2 story office in the US. I was bottom rung employee so to speak working nights in international logistics. Well this company like most was always looking to save a buck where it could & that meant a skeleton crew overnight & even our lead went home shortly after midnight w next shift not coming till 5. And bc it was 24/7 there were occasions we’d have things change at drop of hat & needed supervisor approval on matters which ment late night phone call & u could just imagine how those went. Well bc it was global company there was a lot of paperwork/verbal coordination in going in & out of various countries & each country required specific paperwork, and there were times you’d go months wo doing business in some countries so its easy to forget the requirements & u needed everyone both internally & externally to be on same page for everything to go smoothly, which as u might imagine didnt always happen. Of course u can see where things can fall thru cracks be it my fault or otherwise & id get in trouble.
Well bc i was new & had to work nights i never saw my boss which can be both good and bad. Well be that as it may i ended up being just another employee at the job. There was literally no personal verbal or written communication. Only when i fu**ed up did i hear from her. Well fast forward if u will to my birthday. I get off at 8am & was called to the conf room. Im thinking its related to my bday. Nope shes in there w an HR rep reaming me over for something i missed the week before & is formally writing me up wo so much a clue as to what day it is. If not for fact i just signed a 12 month lease on a place & there few other options in area for the industry & job i was in i mighta just put in my 2 weeks then idk.
Looking back Idk that there is a lesson to be taught or learned bc u never truly know what the job environment is like or how u will interact with boss until u start working there. U can only learn so much in an interview & in the industry i was in a lot of those interviews are over phone. Mind u this was pre-pandemic before Zoom really took off.
TL;DR: got written up/scolded on my bday bc boss never cared or got to personally (on professional level) get to know their employees & company was looking to save buck everywhere possible.
EDIT: sorry for being vague on job details, want to be discrete
