My father worked for a large British car manufacturer. They make sports car's and 4x4's etc.
He worked there for 35 years, and retired last year. He was in the process of having his pension fund (around 500k British Pounds) transferred to a financial advisor. This process was taking time as his old employer had historic delays to ensure this wasnt a smooth process. He passed away suddenly about 2 months after his retirement. The transfer still not near completion, and him no longer an employee of said car company, we were told his pension pot had gone. He worked for 35 years to save this money, to travel and enjoy his retirement years. He was 58.
As soon as his old employer realized they were no longer bound legally to offer this lump sum, or anywhere near this figure, they did exactly that. No letter's, no well wishes, no empathy, no negotiations. Every plea or appeal has came to nothing. There is someone(s) at this company undoubtedly being rewarded for this profit. Whilst my mum has been given the very minimum the company had to legally pay, a 10k annual payment.
The UK car company has actively profited from my fathers death, and ultimately shown how little they gave a shit about him. If he were alive this would break his heart, and is a massive stain on his memory.
Dont ever put the company first, they certainly wont be doing it for you.
