Was working at a small company as an analyst. Started as an intern there at $12/hour after I graduated college I was brought back as an intern at $15/hour before I started full-time a few months later at $40k a year. After my first quarterly review and passing one of the exams that I need for the certification Iâm going for I was bumped up to $47k at the end of the year. For the whole next year I had amazing quarterly reviews and nothing changed. Then I landed an interview at a job at a much bigger company in a different service. After getting through all 3 rounds I received my offer (more than a 70% bump from my previous job) with a sizable signing bonus right in time for my student loans to start this month. I didnât want to leave my employer out of the loop and my new employer said my start date was at least 4 weeks out, so after I got the go ahead that I cleared the background check and would be clear to work in about 20 days, I told my previous employer that I just had the 1st interview (when I already had the new job with my offer letter signed). Then a few days later I said I received the new offer and my start date. All of a sudden the next day they call me in for a meeting and say âwe donât think we underpaid you, but weâd love to keep youâ and they then go on to offer to increase my salary by more than 40%. If you thought I was worth that amount why didnât you give me that salary to begin with? If I had that salary to begin with I probably wouldâve never looked for a new job. I politely declined. Moral of the story is always do the best for you and your family. Your job doesnât really care about you.
