The real reason why there is no universal healthcare in the USA
Post Body

A simple question. Why don’t we have universal publicly funded healthcare in the USA?

This is the question that needs to be looked at with clarity, rejecting self-delusions. The corollary question is: why don’t people talk about the REAL reason we don’t have publicly funded healthcare? Here are the lies told about this issue:

  • It’s too expensive: A dumb lie on its face. Remove the parasitic insurance companies and we drop about 2% of the entire healthcare cost. Limit the rates of big pharma (by, a the very least, using Medicare to purchase all drugs and medication) and we get our costs in-line with Europe, Canada, and Japan. Probably beat those countries in cost savings because the market is so much bigger and so will the economies of scale. To the extent that companies pay the healthcare of their workers, they would save money.

  • It’s morally wrong to transfer wealth from those who don’t prepare for a rainy day: Bitch, please! Our government transfers wealth from the middle class to the investor class wholesale every day. We transfer wealth from New York to Kansas.

So what is the real reasons? This is what people need to wake up to...

The reason why we don’t have universal health care is because our economy depends on fear to keep workers down. Desperation is a feature, not a bug.

Consider… a mother who would rather stay at home and take care of kids (maybe because special needs, or health reasons, or maybe because she is just a good, traditional Christian woman) but must work a shitty job to keep the healthcare. She may depend on the company for her life and fears losing her job, and all the management intrinsically are aware of this dynamic. Without that fear, she is more likely to ask for a raise. She is more likely to drop out of the work force.

Consider… a low level worker who want’s to strike out on her own instead of being a wage slave, but is too afraid because she has diabetes and needs insurance to cover the costs.

When enough people drop out, the value of labor increases.

Why do companies want to pay more for healthcare? They would save money with universal healthcare. Everyone would. But then they would have workers who are not afraid to leave the company. American companies provide ZERO job security anyway; if there is universal healthcare, the labor does not need to provide LABOR INPUT STABILITY.

The same FEAR ECONOMY is the origin for all pressing domestic political issues.

  • Why have ICE go after immigrants who have lived here for decades? No… not because immigrants are a threat. It keeps them down and makes a class of people who will work without benefits or access to legal protections.

  • Why do we have H1-B visas? To give companies control over how their foreign employees in America work and to hold the threat of deportation over technical workers, who will therefore work for 30-50% less than domestic tech workers.

It’s time we rise up and and throw the fear mongers out of power.

We should work in an economy based on respect. I'm not arguing for Communism or some theoretical anything. All I'm saying is that we ned people to open their eyes and demand to live without fear.
