I work as a substitute teacher for a school district in California. Before the beginning of the school year, school employees treated subs like trash and we had low pay.
When the pandemic hit, subs started looking for other jobs because the MESS the school system was. There were no jobs for us.
Fast forward a year-ish, schools are literally BEGGING for substitutes to cover classes. They raised our daily pay by 65 dollars. It’s insane. We’ve been asking for a small raise for YEARS. Pre-COVID they told us they simply didn’t have the money.
Anyway, I honestly love my job. I know lol that statement is not anti-work, but, I do. Kids are a lot of fun to work with and now I actually get paid a living wage to do it.
