Dealing with Religious Talk in the Workplace
Post Body

Hey all,

I've got a bit of a situation at work that's been bugging me and thought maybe you guys could throw some advice my way. So, here's the deal: I work for a state audit department, and it's a pretty small outfit - just my boss and I. We've gotten to know each other fairly well, but there's this one thing that's been putting me on edge.

See, my boss is pretty religious, which I've got no problem with, everyone's got their own beliefs and that's cool. The thing is, she loves to bring up her faith at work. She's shown me pictures from her baptism, chats about how current events are somehow tied to the bible, and even tosses out a "I'll pray for you" every now and then. Now, I've tried to be upfront and told her I'm not exactly comfortable talking about religion, politics, or anything too personal at work. She'll back off for a bit, but the next day we're back at it again.

I'm not trying to knock her for being religious, that's her thing and I respect that. What's been getting to me is how these conversations keep finding their way into our workdays, and sometimes it even goes into conspiracy theory territory, which I definitely don't find professional to bring up. I've tried to put a stop to it, but it seems like my words go in one ear and out the other.

So, that's where I'm at. I'm hoping you guys can help me out here. How do I keep things fine at work but also make sure we're not diving into these topics I'd rather avoid? Any of you been in a similar spot? I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences.

Thanks a ton, everyone!
