So I've been working at a smoke shop for about 3 weeks and haven't signed any paperwork. I, the manager, and the rest of the employees are being paid in cash. There's 2 people working there, employee and manager, that have been there for over a year and a half and they got checks before. They were even told before that paying in cash would be too difficult but now it's in cash every time.
Today I asked my manager if taxes were being taken out of my pay and about signing paperwork that the owner's son said like a week ago that my manager would have me sign. Manager said they weren't told about paperwork, that I would be responsible for my taxes, and they weren't sure what my status there is.
I just messaged the owner's son about it since I don't have the owner's number but haven't heard back yet.
Does this sound to you guys like I'm working under the table? It sure does to me. I really like working there cuz it's chill but I don't wanna get in legal trouble cuz they didn't do things right. We have a new employee that started on Monday and I'm gonna ask them if they signed anything yet but I'm gonna bet they haven't.
What do you guys think?
Edit: I'm in Texas
