As Professor Gail Dines and others have pointed out, the porn industry funded research and development for newer and newer technology. I’m a DVD and VHS enthusiast and I prefer home videos over TV, streaming, and internet, but even home video was developed by the porn industry. Why? Home video was the first time people could take porn home with them and watch it privately without the embarrassment of being seen going in and out a porn movie theater. idk if home video or cable TV came first. Either way, people could later find porn channels on their TV’s so they could have porn without embarrassing trips to the “adult” video store. I put “adult” in quotes bc I don’t want people to automatically think if porn when we hear “adult” anything (“adult” websites/movies/books. there’s a million times more to adulthood than sex!) The internet served the same purpose of anonymity in porn usage.
If porn stopped at the magazines and movie theaters, we probably would’ve seen the end if porn by now. Though tech advancement obviously has it’s upsides - home video made it so anybody could own a copy of something that wasn’t porn that they could watch again and again without the restrictions of the internet, streaming, and tv where the movie or show could be taken off air at any time. so really, IMO we’d be fine if technology stopped at the DVD’s and VHS’s. They’ve made it through education, the workforce, and all else without internet or smart phones for decades, and nobody needs social media to live or get by in life.
And ik that tech like this got us through the pandemic being able to still work and school work, but with it came extra stress on top of their home lives that was enough chaos. We all must make sacrifices if it means stopping porn from advancing to a point that’s extremely difficult to stop and end. I don’t think I have to say how much social media hurts too.
I hope I made sense and this gave you some food for thought.
PS mobile phones should’ve just stayed the bare minimum of call, texting, and nothing else.
Oh yeah. I'm also an old tech enthusiast and my kids have a huge collection of age appropriate movies. They will not be allowed a smartphone or social media until adulthood. A
