Human Breeders are one thing, pet breeders are even more mind boggling

I have always been equivalent in my antinatalist views for both humans and pets, but the fucking obsession some people get with buying young pets or getting purebred is somehow more infuriating for me. I worked at an animal shelter for only a short while, and the absolute most beautiful personality cats had been unadopted for literal years. And seeing them be absolute angels in terms of personality β€” I'm not a cat person but they made me want to adopt them β€” made me realize it was almost certainly for very shallow reasons. Two of the three cats were black. I didn't see a single black cat get adopted while I worked there. The other one had a placeholder name of "Sassy", which was honestly just about the worst name for them. She had nothing sassy about her, she was just a lap love bug and asked for nothing more than to sit with you. It baffled me how these cats never got adopted, but when a set of four kittens showed up, they were adopted in the week. There was no telling what those kittens were going to grow up to be likeβ€” they could have been total nightmare cats depending on how they were raised, whereas these adult cats were pretty much guarantees to be what they were. It infuriated me. People see cute faces and are like "I want that!!" without realizing... those cats are going to be adults in just under a year. Why is that the priority.

Even worse is how my family always insists in buying purebred dogs over adopting. The concept of fuelling potential puppy mills aside, it's absurd to hear of spending literal thousands of dollars on getting some genetic "guarantee" of a designer dog, while dogs risking euthanasia are just thrown under the bus. Perhaps some people here view euthanasia as a humane choice here, idk that's your view, but for me I think if a pet has been brought into this world it cannot consent to death and it shouldn't be euthanized for the sake of convenience when people are breeding dogs for fun. It's disgusting.

Nothing new to add just ranting.
