My partner (23 enby) of three years started taking Wellbutrin about two months ago. Things worked out pretty well! It was their first antidepressant and it seemed to be working. Their mood was balanced. They experienced a whole range of emotions but were generally happier than they had been.
Two or three weeks ago though, it seems they hit a wall. They take their meds very consistently and have not missed a single dose. Their emotions though are all over the place. When something sad/upsetting/disappointing happens, instead of a "normal" level of negative emotion, they are sent a tsunami of sadness and their depression is worse.
They are also having trouble sleeping. For example, this morning I woke up at 4 am to a message from them at 3 am saying that they were still awake and felt useless because they are suffering. This has been fairly consistent. Their doctor prescribed a med (hydroxizine maybe?) to help with insomnia, but this is also not working.
My question for you all is this: is it possible their Wellbutrin just isn't working anymore? Should they talk to their doctor about switching to a different medication? If so, what is that process like?
I'm just so worried for my partner. I hate seeing them suffer like this, but I don't know what to do to help.
