My friend recently joined Legal Shield/ID Shield. He is physically disabled and having a hard time making ends meet right now (lost his job right before Covid, out of unemployment, can’t find anything right now that’s feasible for him).

It’s non stop “I need one more person!” Or “Who wants more info?” I miss his actual personality. He sets goals, doesn’t meet them, becomes more depressed and posts about how he’s a failure. There’s no more posting about his day, his hobbies, his interests. It is 100% “hustle” and “I’m such a failure.”

It’s straining our friendship. He is having trouble with other relationships, too. He says he doesn’t want to beg, but that’s what he’s constantly doing in social media. No matter how much I tell him I don’t need or want the product, he keeps asking. He’s even asked me to become a “representative” even though I have told him I don’t have interest, resources, or time.

I fucking hate these companies so much. They are absolutely predatory and take advantage of people who are in financial need. People who are already in vulnerable situations. Fuck them for encouraging pushy, boundary pushing behavior. Fuck their bullshit made up levels, titles, and rewards. They lure people in with the concept of simplicity (“You only need three people to buy $X amount each month and one person under you to get to the gold star Diamond level!”). Then when even simple goals are unreachable, it’s because you aren’t trying enough. Coffee is for closers!

I know I’m preaching to the choir here and I don’t really need advice. I just wanted to vent to some people who understand how fucked up the whole situation is. Thanks.
