I came across this quote from Japanese sources:
"人生は活動の中にあり、貧しき休息は死を意味する"
Which can be translated into:
"Life is about performing actions, therefore resting is the same as being dead".
This seems to be frequently quoted in Japanese media and it's widely attributed to Voltaire wherever I found it, however I couldn't find the original sentence anywhere or its official English translation.
The closest thing I could find was:
"Repose is a good thing, but boredom is its brother."
But that would make the Japanese version quite a free interpretation. Moreover I still couldn't find the original in French.
Does anyone have any insight of what this could come from?
