Is there a way to play without AI players?

This is the first game I've played in the Anno series, and I've really enjoyed it so far. I do want to try playing without AI characters though, I kind of want to focus on building up my islands without having to worry about competing for islands. I haven't been able to figure out how to configure this in settings, does anyone know of a mod or something along those lines that would let me play the game like this?
