Sub Vs Dub: why setting is important to me

Post Body

This is a discussion mainly aimed at people who enjoy watching dubs as well as sub.

I just wanted to put this out there as I'm intrigued to find out how everyone makes a decision to watch an anime for the first time in dub or sub. I, for instance, used to be of the opinion that if a dub was available for an anime I should always watch the dub but now i have an appreciation for watching sub in animes centered around Japan and it's culture (slice of life genre especially) as it helps me learn new words and traditions of IRL Japan.

However, if an anime is an isekai or is set in a fantasy world like Konosuba or Re:Zero then I find dub to be more appropriate seeing as the MC has the language translated for him and since it doesn't showcase in Japan I could easily pretend the guy came from Earth and not specifically Japan. Or if it's just a fantasy world with no isekai, I may as well watch the dub because there is nothing here relating to Japan other than the language.
