So it's been about three days, and my heart is still heavy. I'm not even sure where to start, because everything is still reeling in my head about the wild ride that ensued after episode 6.
I'll say the ad nauseam stuff first - I loved how real and flawed the characters were, I loved that the relationship developed quickly, I loved that it was more than hand-holding, and as much as it leaves a huge hole in my heart, I loved the ending too.
Also, fuckin' Touma. What is it about her that makes her so appealing? I've seen several anime with stoic, dark-haired women (Oregairu, Kokoro Connect, just to name a couple), and I can't get Touma out of my head. I even gave both girls a fair shake, and was team Setsuna early on! I can't ignore my heart, though.
But here's my big thing. The music. I know it's a show with heavy music themes, but the way they tied the 3/4 specific songs with the characters and their feelings was so incredibly well done. I feel like especially in the aftermath, hearing the songs gives me an even bigger emotional pang than other romance anime that I reminisce about.
I'm big on skipping the OP of a show, especially if I'm binging. I watched the OP every episode. The song and the characters and the concert as a focal point of the love triangle became more important the further into the show I got. Now hearing it just gives me waves of melancholy for these three conflicted young people.
Guess I'll go listen to Todokanai Koi again and get all choked up because that's where I'm at right now in this emotional state. Anyway, great show. I'm now following the progress on the painstaking translation of the VN.
TL;DR: Team Touma, great music, many feels, man tears.
Edit: I've now consumed a fair bit of romance anime. This isn't my favorite, but it's very close to the top (#2 perhaps?) If you're interested we can talk favorite shows. Just ask!
