Pretty much all of us started off watching the same type of shows, usually popular stuff, mostly Action type shows, usually Shounen.

When was the first time you verged into the unconventional and started to watch a very different type of show than usually is popular?

When I'm talking about unconventional that can mean:

• Shows with a very different style and story (Beck, Tatami Galaxy, Monogatari etc.)
• Shows with a very unconventional setting or story (Humanity has Declined, Arakawa under the Bridge etc.)
• Complex shows not targeted towards a general audience (Welcome to the NHK, NGE etc.)
• Shows verging on the absurd side, things people might call "weird" (Shimoneta, MonMus etc.)
• Anything you'd call very Original or Creative.

When talking about unconventional I don't refer to:

• Popular Shows with a pretty normal style and writing, but in a slightly different setting (No Game No Life, Sakurasou etc. )
• Fairly normal shows but with an interesting or original twist/quirk to it: (ReLife, Kokoro Connect etc.)
• Shows that parody other shows (KonoSuba etc.)
• Popular Shows that are exceptionally edgy or dark in a decently normal setting (Mirai Nikki, Elfen Lied)

Shows like Ore no Imouto are on the edge, since they're quite normal in style but go a very controversial route, judge them how you will.

So, which was your first, and which is your favorite?
