Does anyone else feel Kotoura's mother got off about 1000x easier than she should have? I mean, I get that Kotoura's a forgiving person and all, but this terrible excuse for a parent neglected her child, abandoned her, and then blamed everything on her and it's okay because she felt bad about it? I mean, when the final confrontation with the mother started I was excited because a really horrible character was about to get told off, but after a drink and a girl to girl about men everything's hunky-fuckin-dory?
The woman physically and mentally abused her daughter, was a big component in tearing their family apart, convinced poor 7 year old Kotoura everything was her fault, and then left her literally without contact for 8 goddamn years. And then, when she finally met her again, proceeded to continue being a huge bitch to her daughter. They try to play it off with a little bit of "Oh those tsunderes, what're you gonna do" but no matter how you look at it its really fucked up. Did it never occur to the woman to not treat her only daughter with complete and utter contempt? It really bothered me and tainted one of the happier endings to an anime with such heavy themes.
