The main ones I think of are The Promised Neverland S2 and Tokyo Ghoul, and a few others. A lot of anime had season 2s that were not as good as the first season but for me those two went further and just had an absolutely terrible second season
What other anime do you think of that went downhill like this?
Oh yeah, 100% agree with that. I enjoyed the rest of season 1 and season 2 so far. Just started so high, it’d be hard to recapture that I think
Eureka Seven. First season was amazing and beautifully written. All of the characters and their arcs were just incredible.
And then there was Eureka AO. More like Eureka FUCK NO. I don't wanna talk about it. I was so hyped when it was announced. But with every episode I could see it was just not the same. It would have been better off never having been done.

I’m actually trying to think of another anime where the high point is episode 1, maybe Oshi no Ko? Episode 1 of To Your Eternity has to be one of the best first episodes ever
