Hi all! Many thanks in advance for any advice you're able to give. I am trying to gather some initial info & guidance for a bright 12-year-old I am involved in mentoring. She has a passion for digital animation (she is especially inspired by Monty Oum)

She's very bright & this is definitely something she's serious about, but she does not have an actual computer at this time.

What I'm hoping to glean:
With a $1200 budget, what would I do to get her started with equipment and software?
desktop vs laptop?
mac vs pc?

What software would you recommend?
