I love AllTrails. But to start it I must spend time searching for a predetermined route. I just want to start walking and have the app start GPS tracking right away, without selecting a route. So I can get the kilometres, time, altitude and speed etc for wherever I hiked that day. As well as the accumulated statistics over months.
With AllTrails I have to find a random hike first, then pretend to start it, even if it is miles away. Then it GPS tracks that hike beautifully. This works, but I find it awkward and too many steps. I use it this way because it's on my phone anyway and I use it a lot to just explore.
Is there a better app to do this simple thing (open the app, and start tracking right away)? I have tried OSM and a couple of others over the years, but they feel are too complex and are equally cumbersome for this simple task? I definitely do need the underlying map though, not just distance and time stats. Then I can use it find random paths or shortcuts.
