Doing a study on the history of the city of Rome in the 4th century. Trying to see if anyone knows why Constantine would destroy the Porta Triumphalis. Couldn’t find the source, and can’t find any literature on the topic or if it is even true.

My comment is backed by most current scholarship. Monuments include his reuse of the Colossus of Sol, and his Arch. His coinage is also full of pagan imagery, and he did nothing significant to diminish Paganism in Rome. Theodosius declared Christianity to be the official state religion of the empire, and ordered the closure or destruction of pagan temples and statuary throughout the empire. I’ve studied Rome for decades and have a degree in the topic. I was just curious if anyone had sources as to the fate of the Porta Carmentalis and the Servian walls in general, and their state during the 4th century AD.

I would recommend that you read the history of Constantine, but if I must I will here is a source

Constantine built many pagan monuments, so that comment is misguided. Scholarship isn’t even certain he converted prior to his deathbed. Theodosius is the OG misguided Christian, I would say.
