Charge Card Question

Hello Everyone,
I have a question when it comes down to charge cards for people with no credit and or getting their first "credit card"
I think I saw a post about someone not getting approved because the Amex gold card was the only card on their credit report and since it is a charge card they have no revolving credit.
So my question is, would recommending the gold card as someone's first credit card hurt them in any way with getting approved for other cards?
