I travel a lot for business so I jumped on things when I was offered 190,000 points to sign up for a new AmEx Business Platinum card.

Between the Clear benefit ($189), Dell benefit ($400), and other things like Priority Pass, it was easy enough to justify the $695/year annual fee.

However, I'm looking at booking some travel and have noticed a couple things:

1) AmEx Travel generally has terrible prices on flights... That's disappointing as I thought the 5x points reward would be great, but not if the flights cost 30% more.

2) I thought I would be able to periodically get a better exchange rate with Delta SkyMiles than 1:1 to get good deals on first class flights, but every time I've looked over the first few months of having the card it's the same rate - 1,000 AmEx points for 1,000 Delta SkyMiles. I also haven't come across any flights where it's cheaper to book with miles than it is to book with USD.

If this is how things are, then it makes sense to just keep using my Capital One Spark card to get the 2% cash back.

Am I missing something? Are there ways to truly get good deals on flights using this card?
