My statement closed May 24.
I owed 3582.95.
I sent $800 as an online payment right after getting my statement, which should have dropped the balance to 2782.95.
The following day, May 25, I see line item transactions for -800 and then 800 which should cancel each other out; however my balance is now $800 more than it was when I sent the payment.
I did not spend exactly the same amount in one day as I sent them toward the payment and not know about it. I gained about $30 in interest and spent about $20 on purchases on May 25, not $800. Yet my balance is now around $4400.
I spent ELEVEN hours between phone and online chat yesterday and could not get one person with a modicum of intelligence to understand that my balance shows I now owe $800 more than I spent.
I am at my wits end.
It would now take $1600 to bring my balance down to where it should have been with the payment cleared.
I think Iโm just going to owe Amex an illegal $800.
I donโt know how else to explain that if they removed a credit for $800 (that never applied to my balance), how do I owe double what I told them to draw in the first place?
