Amex travel portal, how much in savings is worth it

I understand that using the portal is like having Amex as your travel agent which is not always ideal. I have a business platinum and with the 35% back in points I can save almost 35-50k in points is that enough risk having issues with not controlling my own reservation? The trip is not until nov 2023 so Iām worried about changes so far out.
Any insight would be appreciated!
